Code of Conduct
Summary:
In summary, this guild requires its members to adhere to the highest possible standard of courtesy and decorum in all public and private communications. All of our rules in this matter are in keeping with Blizzard's Code of Conduct policy, but we are more strrict about it than they are. The first purposeful infraction of any of these rules is grounds for dismissal from the guild, though inadvertent deviations will be taken in stride.
If you carry our guild name, you are required to adhere to these guidelines at all time. We have set a higher standard for conduct than Blizzard requires, and all members of this guild will adhere to them at all times or be dismissed. If you are mature enough to be in this guild, you are mature enough to accept the responsibility to abide by these rules 100%. |

Language:
1. Blatant or thinly disguised use of severe foul language, scatological comments, references to severly perverted sexual acts, etc. will NOT be tolerated. If you wouldn't say it in front of the typical grandmother, don't say it on the server. This is not to say that you can't speak plainly, use any words that may ever offend anyone, or are required to be politicaly correct at all times. Our grandmothers probably aren't on this server, and those who are on it can handle some moderately colorful language and mildly risque remarks. Generally when such things are said in jest they enhance people's enjoyment and it would be wrong for us to attempt to prohibit that. Use discretion and respect any specific feedback you receive from any guild member who may be offended by things that you say as your guide in what is/isn't acceptable. 2. This guild will not recruit any character whose name is insulting, crude, or obnoxious. |
Flame Wars/Insults:
1. Do not participate in flame wars, insult contests, etc. in any chat, no matter how severely you feel that you have been provoked.
2. Words, phrases, or expressions which demean members of any real-world ethnic, racial, national, religious, etc. group are forbidden at all times. 3. Negative remarks about homosexuals are equally forbidden. Using the term 'gay' as a synonym for 'something bad' or calling someone 'fag', etc. is just not as cool as some people on the Malygos server seem to think. 4. Using the word 'retarded' or any of its variations as an insult is also prohibited. 5. OTOH, discussions about the drinking habits of dwarves, gnomes having squeaky voices, etc. are expected as part of role playing by some players and are perfectly Ok unless taken to annoying extremes. Characters whose role playing background gives them a personal vendetta against some group within the world of Azeroth are expected and encouraged to express that dislike colorfully and with regularity. 6. Friendly taunting of Alliance players in the battlegrounds or anyone with who you are going to have a formal duel is expected and part of the game, as well as is good natured ribbing among guild members when all parties agree it is in good fun, but any speech intended mostly to belittle, harrass, insult or demean any player or any real world group or individual is strictly prohibited. |
| No Whining: |
1. No whining about game classes being over or underpowered, etc. Take such matters to the forums ... where you can always find an audience who enjoys participating in such discussions. 2. No whining about losing duels. If you choose to participate in a duel with someone, be a good sport about losing, or be gracious as the winner. Complaining that a priest used her/his healing ability to help stay alive in a duel is pretty lame when you consider that this ability is part of what provides that character class with balance in the environment. Similarly, if you accept a duel from a player who is above you in levels, you have no business complaining publicly that he/she only defeated you because of that difference in levels. 3. No whining about PvP deaths. This is a PvE server, so if you die in a PvP encounter that's a natural consequence of a choice you made when you went PvP or entered an area that is PvP. Note that our guild protocols prohibit you from participating in PvP activities in any region that is not identified on the Malygos PvE server as specifically identified for those types of encounters. It is the strong opinion of this guild that clogging up areas like the Barrens with incessant PvP fighting is inapproriate and ruins the PvE experience for other players in that area. We understand that PvP activities are enjoyable to many players and agree that they are an important part of the game. We simply require you to limit them to the places where they do not interfere with those who do not wish to participate in them. 4. No severe criticism of Blizzard or the game itself. Blizzard needs to hear your legitimate concerns and they have a web site for them. We don't need to cluter up chat with it. "I hate lag!" or a brief venting of frustration about uncorrected bugs, changes to game mechanics, downtime, etc. is fine. Endless repetition of "This game sucks" is not. |
| No Griefing: | 1. No griefing or any other actions that are designed specifically to cheat any player, guild member or not, out of the legitimate fruits of their labors. These types of behaviors serve mostly to aggravate that player and reflects poorly on the integrity of those who do them. | |
| No Harrassment: |
1. World of Warcraft is not an online dating service or social club. Some members will freely share personal information about themself with other members, while other members may wish to keep all such personal matters to themself. The guild's policy on this matter is that we encourage people to be social with each other as part of their enjoyment of the game sessions, but we also respect each member's right to decide this matter for themself. 2. Polite inquiries for personal information about players, such as profession, age, sex, location, hobbies, interests, etc. are OK, but if the person replies that they don't choose to reveal such information about themself the subject is to be dropped. 3. Discussion of politics, religion, etc. can become sensitive and offfensive very quickly. I believe that people should discuss such matters, but the chat areas in this game are not the best place for such discussions and could easily lead to offense or disruption. Therefore, anything beyond the merest mention of such matters in public chat is prohibited. 4. The guild will have both male and female players, as well as some players that may be minors. Remember these facts and keep all public conversations in line with what is apporpriate for your possible audience. 5. I have made every effort to avoid the use of sexist language here on the site, including the use of non-gender-specific pronouns where i have remembered to do so. There may be places where i have used a masculine pronoun in place of a generic one, or where a term i choose to use is considered sexist by some people. If this is a special concern of yours i ask that you note that i do recognize the issues involved in this matter and have taken special care to be sensitive to them, so its reasonable to ask you to be willing to meet me half-way in this regard for the places where i have inadvertantly or purposely chosen to use the terms that i feel are most appropriate. 6. Any private conversations between members about social, personal, religious, philosophical, etc. matters are their business as long as all parties are happy with them, but do not have any purely private conversations in guild chat or any public chat areas. 7. The guild is not in a position to arbitrate matters of harrassment. Blizzard has a policy on such matters and is the sole arbiter of what does or does not constitute harrassment. If you feel that you are being harrassed by someone in the guild your first and best recourse is to report it via the Blizzard-provided channels. I would be happy to expel anyone from this guild if a bona-fide representative of Blizzard were to advise me that the person was guilty of such behavior, but it is probably illegal for them to do so and i don't expect that it is going to happen. I prefer not to become enmeshed in any such matters directly, but if a long-time member who has demonstrated consistently courteous and sportmanlike behavior tells me that someone who has been less rigid in this matter has been harrassing them and won't quit doing so after multiple requests, i'm likely to let each person's reputation be the deciding factor in the matter. |
| Direct Challenges: | 1. It's a sad but true fact that some players may take it upon themselves to try to provoke our guild members into breaking our code of conduct, or will otherwise make it their mission to try to bring grief to our guild or its members for whatever reasons. The correct reaction to that situation, the only reaction to that situation for those who truly embrace the guild's code of conduct, will be to ignore the situation and not allow that person to manipulate you into breaking the guild protocols or otherwise participating in any unsportsmanlike conduct with them. 2. Participating in such petty and immature exchanges will explicitly not be viewed as defending the honor of our guild, regardless of the specifics of the provocation involved. Letting it pass and rising above such things is the only way to truly demonstrate the true spirit and honor of this guild. 3. Blizzrd provided the Ignore Player option. members of this giuild are encouraged to use it when they find a player's behaviors or chat to be provocative or annoying. |

Breaking any of the above rules will be grounds for immediate dismissal from the guild. I will listen to legitimate objections to dismisal if you feel that i have misunderstood the situation, but if you're the type of person who believes that rules don't apply to you because you are 'special', take it as your personal mission in life to complain about things just for the sake of doing so, or like to take your personal frustrations with real life out on people you encounter in a gaming environment, you will find me completely unsympathtic to your egocentric view of the universe :-). The Guild Master is the final arbiter of such matters. |
