Why Role Play?:
The founders of this guild enjoy role playing their characters in this type of game. Doing so enhances our enjoyment by increasing our sense of immersion in the game environment. Those players who enjoy that aspect of this game are encouraged to join this guild and play along. Some aspects of the guild protocols are purely role playing in nature, so gaining the benefits from guild membership requires you to play along with the associated role playing requirements. If you don't actively enjoy doing so, there's little point in you asking to join the guild. |

Malygos - PvE Server:
Malygos is not a role playing server, but this guild is intended for people who enjoy role playing. Suggestions that we should have created our characters and this guild on a Role Playing server are legitimate, but as with many aspects of this guild we didn't always make the most efficient choices when first began playing this game. We chose to stick with this server after we understood the situation better, simply because we already had spent some time developing the characters we had been playing and saw no need to start over. It doesn't affect anyone who is not a member of this guild if the members choose to role play among themselves. Since this guild is specifically intended only for people who do enjoy role playing, our poor original choice in that matter isn't hurting anyone.
IC vs OOC chat:
Guild chat may be in character (IC) or out of character (OOC) as appropriate to the situation. Default expectation is that all guild and party chat is IC unless it is obvious from the context that the message is being sent OOC. For perfect clarity, you may start any series of messages that will be OOC by prefixing the first message in that series with (OOC). Any message which contains that explicit identifier will not be subject to guild protocol rules.
Character History:
Players may make up any character background that appeals to them. The only limit on that is that the game occurs in the universe that has already been established by Blizzard, and all character histories must fit into that storyline as cleanly as possible, Each character's history should be consistent with Blizzard's general guidelines for the races and classes within the horde. Players's should choose a home for their characters which is consistant with where a character of their chosen race and class could originate. This home does not have to be the standard starting location for the character, but cannot be completely inconsistent with the allegiance identified for each city in the game. |
Personalities:
Players may adopt any appropriate personality for their character(s) that appeal to them, with the same limit as specified above. All character personalities must fit into Blizzard's guidelines for the behavior of members of that race/sex/class as cleanly as possible. When in doubt of what is appropriate, look to the quest givers and NPCs in the environment for guidance of how similar characters should behave.
In general i consider this a good set of guidelines:
Stretching and exploring the boundaries of the above guidelines is absolutely encouraged. That's the best part of role-playing. Ignoring the above guidelines totally isn't role playing at all and will result in expulsion from the guild. |

Blizzard Limits:
Blizzard expressly prohibits people from assuming the role of any identified character within their mythology. As in all matters, members of this guild are required to respect Blizzard's policies in this matter. We are not the 'rulers' of Azeroth, so our personas may not be more than peripheral characters to the overall game storyline... but you are free to be an important peripheral character if that suits you. You may opt to come from a minor family within a noble house, for example, but you may not opt to be the king, high priestess, etc. Similarly, you may opt to have been assigned a special, long term mission from one of the leaders of the horde, or one of the organizations identified in the mythos, as long as the mission you claim is consistent with the overall aim of that leader or organization.
